HEALTH PROGRAMS
HIV/AIDS Prevention Education and Community Mobilization:
is designed to provide basic information on HIV/Aids so that people can
make informed choices. This is done through training of Peer educators
who will in turn train other members of the community; and the creation
of an action plan by the community to focus their energies to combat HIV
& improve their quality of living.
Nutrition and Dietetics: aims at
educating people on proper nutrition which involves food production,
processing, preserving, handling, selling, preparation, sharing and also
with eating and with what happens to food in the body, how it is
digested, absorb and utilized. Food gives us the energy and nutrients
the body needs to maintain health and life, grow and develop, and work
and play.
Production and Demonstration of Complimentary
Foods: When breast milk is no longer enough to meet the
nutritional needs of the infant, complementary foods are added to the
diet of the child. The transition from exclusive breastfeeding to family
foods, referred to as complementary feeding, typically covers the period
from 6 to 18 & 24 months of age, and is a very vulnerable period. It is
the time when malnutrition starts in many infants, contributing
significantly to the high prevalence of malnutrition in children less
than five years of age world-wide. WHO estimates that 2 out of 5
children are stunted in low-income Countries. This programme is intended
to educate people especially those in the community to reduce
malnutrition and child mortality.
Basic Hygiene and First Aids: It is
aimed at educating the general populace on how to take care of
themselves and adopt good hygiene practices in order to safe guard their
health and prevent disease. First Aid deals with enlightening people on
the various techniques of first aid in order to reduce deaths and
injuries arising from accidents.
